why is my briggs and statton blowing smoke from the vent at the side ? self propelled and is it safe to use ?

If the mower has been tipped up on it's side for any reason it will blow blue/grey smoke until the oil that has spilled into the exhaust burns off. If the oil is overfilled you get the same smoke. If neither of these are the case it may be a sign that the rings and or cylinder bore are bad.
