No forward or reverse on 1997 MTD after changing the front drive belt?

The front drive belt broke on my 1997 MTD. I changed it with OEM and now it won't move forward or in reverse? It was running fine before the belt broke, no unusual noises or odors.

changing the drive belt would not affect this check the linkage on the selector it is connected directly to the axle/gearbox
