Recent viewing of bbc iPlayer video 'Filthy rotten scoundrels' was a pain in the butt as the video kept freezing with a red dot chaising around centre of screen as though it was a re-load.
What causes this. It occured 10 times midway through so got fed up and aborted the video.

Your internet connection is not fast anough.

Your solution is to start the movie and put it in pause mode untill it's fully loaded.
Go take a lunch and go to the toilet while it loads...
Once it's done, it will play without interuption.

The other solution is to upgrade your internet connection to a higher speed that will cost you more each month.
