how can i fix my clutch on nissan micra se 54 plate?

my nissan micra se 54 registration clutch has gone very soft to press what will be the problem i can change gears but its not got any pressure on the pedal when i press it can you please tell me what the problem is will it be the actual clutch or could it be a cable or something
