How can I stop my cooker fan motor activating when power switched on?

I have just replaced fan motor on a Stoves cooker. However, with cooker oven controls off, the motor/fan starts when main power switched on?

The motor is not identical to the one I replaced but was quoted as fitting my Stoves 600E model. The connecting lugs are in the right place but this motor is slightly smaller.

This motor has earth terminals but my previous one did not so I have not earthed it to cooker.

Thanks for answer. Have since refitted old motor(which sounded like bearings were going) to test and same thing is happening. This was not the case before. You are probably correct in that I now have a fault with the selector switch!

if you have 2 wires (live and neutral) to the motor there isn't a lot you can do wrong.is this the reason the 1st one failed because it was running 24/7 or has the old one caused something to weld such as a contact on a selector switch?.difficult to say without testing
