How can i lock/shut the bonnet on my mondeo titanium?

The mechanism that locks shut the bonnet won't work. The initial lever engages but the lower lock won't fasten.

I'd replace the lock while it is open. If it fails again when you have it locked closed you'll have a dickens of a job.
