door won't open?

I have a kitchenaid dishwasher that I just started - went to open door to add some plates and the door won't open. Letting the cycle run but have always been able to open the door during cycle in past.

I would suspect, something in the door latch, as most units you can open mid cycle, nothing prevents the opening, So probably fault in the mechanism
