E40 is a door interlock fault code HOWEVER sometimes the door locks blow components on the main PCB.you need to try a new door lock but be aware it might not work if damage has occurred.A tell tail sign SOMETIMES is if you remove the 2 screws that hold the door lock in and then remove it from the machine you can see a brown burn/hotspot in the middle of the lock.if this is the case then the above mention may well apply.occasionally the wiring to the door lock burns out again you will see this when removing the door lock.good luck
