removing plastic clips ?

I have a Hotpoint Aquarius WDL450G washer dryer... I just need to know how i can remove the plastic grips, which have teeth on top and bottom of grip so i can get the sump and filter off, and is this possible or do i have to cut through them and replace with Jubilee clips ?
