Tricty Sovereign cooker model 4638. Grill tripping house mains?

When I turn on the grill of our tricity sovereign 4638 Cooker it trips the main circuit breaker in the house. I have replaced the element but with the same result. It doesn't trip if the element is not connected.

Does anybody know what else might be causing the fault. Apart from the grill everything else on the cooker seems to function OK. Ideas much appreciated

Hello ck

thanks a lot for your reply. In my innocence it never occured that the new component could be faulty. I've got an old Megga tester which ought to do the trick for insulation test. After that small blow torch should 'cook' the new element if necessary. I'll let you know how I get on although it might not be for a few days.

Can't wait to get back to cheese on toast.

You need to test the insulation on the NEW element.this requires a special test meter.it wouldn't be the 1st time a new element has had low insulation.getting the new element red hot can sometimes help dry them out and stop tripping
