spongy brakes?

after putting new brake pads on my '97 passat and bled them, the brakes are still spongy and only work on the second or third pump' also ABS light is staying on, can you help please?

When you pushed the pistons back did you clamp the flexys and undo the bleed nipple to let the fluid out as the piston went back? If not, you may have pushed fluid back all the way to the master cylinder and flipped the seals in that.

What procedure did you follow?

Did you take care not to disturb the ABS ring and associated wiring?
