Hoover steam vac hose line broken?

The hose line split at the point it enters the main assembly. I was not able to detach the broken part of the hose from the housing. I was hopeful that I could cut the hose and then put a good part of the hose into the housing. Any suggestions?

If you don't mind losing the ability to use the extension tools, and just want to get the suction for the floor cleaning, remove the broken hose and its associated female fixture from the main assembly(release the catch on the bottom side) and place some plastic cling film on the male end stub of the main assembly and reinstall the female housing. This will close off the broken suction hose path, which is only used for the attachments, thereby pulling the air through the floor intake. It also properly seals the water supply. This will allow the floor portion to stay airtight and draw the waste water....or that is what we are hoping :-).
