for the cost I would put the tablet on the filter in the bottom and use it like that unless there is a prewash function in which case you can't use this idea as it takes the detergent at the wrong time!!

first thing i can recommend is open door inside panel and look for broken wire from timer to dispensor solenoid and see what happen if you put direct power on solenoid. check wiring or rusted solenoid before changing timer
