hotpoint WD440 washer/dryer not controling?

thank you ozone for the reply.you were exactly right. the heating element is open circuit. i shorted the two wires together and plugged in the machine. it is ok for a moment then when something clicks it starts up without selecting the on button and goes to pump out. it will not control from any switch. only unplugging it has any effect.

hello martin,it is sounding like when the element shorted out it has taken the front pcb also.the pcb failure is most certainly attributed to the washer behaving in that manner.its a costly design, but a safety feature also.if the interlock shorts out it will also take out the front pcb.its a costly repair iam afraid.said pcb main module can cost around 80 quid.this is the main control centre for the machine. to be honest mate I have seen many of wd40,s skipped because of same failure.what ever you decide to do I wish you good luck.ps at least you didn't waste your money on a new element :(
