This sounds exactly like my 2004 Eurocargo, finally starts after turning over for a minute or so, disconnect the fuel pressure sensor and it starts straight up but with heavy diesel knock. Could you share a link to the part you changed?

Glad you got yours sorted!

glad you got it sorted ....well cant see any reason to doubt them ...a good start to the new year ,,...thanks for letting us know the resoloution

whaaaay all running as it should be .a lot of money and time spent on the truck .a good way of finding how they work .but the proublem was a dodgy sender unit after all .a pin hole yeah pin hole when fuel became lower then hole stuck air .well that what i have been told but it all good now .thank for all your help norb

pete, January 2012
so weren't the iveco dealer any help???? iveco wiring is bad ,may be an idea to get that checked...and please say you have checked the air filter lol

norb, December 2011
we fitted new ones in 1st .before all the other stuff .we going to start from the begenning to check we ant missed anything ,or put older engine and dash in

pete, December 2011
are the cam and crank sensors ok ..as a faulty sensor will result in longer cranking before it starts as a signal is missing

norb, December 2011
well no faults showing on computer at fords .all working as it should right prescure on fuel system .but still the same .a sit down and think now what the next step will be .

pete, December 2011
unless iveco are different ,if the plug is removed from Mprop you would get full rail pressure..thanks for the updates and would like to know the outcome

norb, December 2011
well .still the same .got iveco coming in now ,will let you know the out come .and yeah the ecu need to be progamed to the truck .so we replace the seal while we had it out aswell .defo not injetoer as new ones fitted .the man at iveco is thinking brake in loom to m prop keeping it open .common on iveco of that age we shall see

pete, December 2011
im honestly not sure about the iveco.though you can with the daf ,but that is just a test ,so you may get away with it ,as nowdays some ecu have the chassis number in them... i don't know of anyone as of yet who can test the injectors, though try a bosch agent they may know...keep the tubes with the injectors they are matched too ...only other things i can think off ,but it nothing i have ever know fail is check for short circuit open circuits to the injectors and the the resistance of the injectors and if they are shorting ,but i still think it's fuel related by the sounds of it

norb, December 2011
yeah we check all you have said .and changed the pump today .but still the same .going to try leak off again .or mabe sent them off to be checked .then we can check the other bits you have said about .to check for groves.other then that only thing left is engine ecu on the block .we can borrow one do you know if they need to be promgramed in .or not thank for you help. pete

have you checked the pressure relief valve isn't stuck open ,hence you can't build up pressure...

though i do DAF it's the same engine with 1 or 2 minor differences ,..my general approach ,is to check what the volts drop to on the batteries whilst cranking the engine and to watch the rail pressure,as to high a voltage drop and the ecu shuts down ,and if you can't get to a pre determined rail pressure then it won't start .next i check the torque of the gland nuts on the injector tubes ,should be 50nm ,if slack then fuel leaks by and can corrode the ends of the tubes cutting fine grooves in them...next i disconnect the metal fuel feed pipe to the rail have someone spin the engine and see if i am getting any fuel .if not, check for either blockages / leaks back to the tank ,or the lift pump bolted to the main fuel pump shears it's drive..if fuel is being delivered ,then i carry out the fuel leak off test ..as said earlier as each injector is disconected from the fuel supply you should get less than 30ml...

a quick check of the pump is to disconnect the electrical plug from the prop valve ,which will then deliver max pressure to the common rail and will on the DAF anyway give a red engine warning and the engine runs rough ,re connecting the plug clears the warning and any rough running

well today in the cold again .we change the fuel housing on engine fitted new presure valve .new o rings .still the same .going to try a pump tomorrow .or any other idears to check

pete, December 2011
cheers

norb, December 2011
yeah we did one at a time .for the leak off .and yes a tector engine .will try the presuer valve on the pump .as have hear they play up .will report back .and let you know the out come thanks

pete, December 2011
the main pump is a pressure pump ,they generally work or don;t ...though the electrical valve on them (M PROP )do play up ,you can change it easily enough

norb, December 2011
your only allowed 30ml max per injector ,i take it you did the injectors 1 at a time ,and not 4 or 6 in the one go..

norb, December 2011
hi thanks for you help .we done leak off still the same inj were fine .we are thinking filter housing on engine or pump .any other idears we be helpfull

pete, December 2011
if it's the tector engine, you may have a faulty injector which is allowing the fuel to run back ...also make sure the batteries are 100% as it will not start if the voltage drops too low ,even if it sounds healthy,so check voltage drop when cranking if ok the you need to do injectore leak off
