When the machine started to fill, it filled up in short spurts for about 5-6 times then it stopped and all the lights started to flash and beep. Once the beeping stopped the long wash, short wash and spin lights remained on. We tried to run different cycles but it made no difference.

sorry, this isn't an answer, but the very same thing has happened my my F&P 6.5kg smart drive too. it's only 2 years old.

That is error code 137 but there is no code by that number in the service manual from F&P. Either the control board is faulty and giving the wrong error message or it is a code that F&P don't want anyone to know about. The symptom you describe can be caused by a faulty lid switch, faulty out of balance switch or faulty RPS sensor down on the motor. They are the most common but there are other faults. Due to the strange error code I would suggest you get a service company out to put in a spare board to see if the error goes away.

From left to right, first light is on (long wash), then 2nd, 3rd & 4th are off; 5th is on (short wash), then the next two are off and the (red) spin light is on.

Can you be a bit more exact on the lights. There are 4 wash lights. Count from left to right and tell me what lights are on and which are off along the top row when it beeps.
