What kind of e-mail?
Is it the e-mail from your ISP, or some webmail?
What do you use to access it?
Any error message? What is it?
Any chance that someone else may have your password? That someone could then easily change it without your concent. In this case, you've irrevocably lost that acount if it's a webmail account. If it's an account from your ISP, phone them to have things corrected and your password reset to a NEW one. NEVER EVER give your password to ANYBODY for any reason, EVER.
If a webmail, how long since you last logged in? After 30 to 45 days without connecting, the acount becomes inactive. After another 30 to 45 days, the inactive acount is suppressed. If that's the case, the acount no longer exists and everything in it, contact list and saved messages, is irrevocabley lost.
