when dryer is switched on as though its on standby,but when dial is turned the dryer tripps the electric.

Yes I understand,on standby you have no power going to the heating element,fan and motor.You need to access the said components,to start troubleshooting the dryer.Start with the heating element.If you don't have a multimeter and are not confident in this procedure,I would suggest you get someone in to look into the problem.
