Be careful here. The WD420 uses a thermister (variable resistor) to detect heat. If you short it out, you will upset the electronics and the machine will abort. We test these main modules (in the back of the machine) for £5+vat inc return postage. www.emwelec.co.uk

You'll need to have, and be able to use, a multimeter to check to see if the thermostat is open circuit.
If it is, you'll need to change the thermostat.
 
If you don't have a meter, take the wires off of the thermostat, temporarily join them together and insulate.
 
Try the machine again.
If it heats, you need a new thermostat.
 
Do not use the machine with the thermostat bypassed.
