Timer too tight?

The timer control on my Hoover tv630 has become extremely tight to turn, is it possible to rectify this without buying a new timer????

is the knob binding on the control panel?.pull knob away from control panel.If it is the timer that is tight sometimes wd40 frees them but if not a replacement timer is required
