Accenta/Optima G3 alarm system?

How do I remove and replace the battery in this alarm system without disturbing the whole set-up
Alf J, January 2012
hi guys. i am trying to dismantle my optima/accenta system as i'm moving home and can't afford a new system. i can't find an answer to the original question, just ppl calling each other. can someone put an answer on here, or better still, please tell me how to take my system down without the siren sounding for too long. my brother is re-installing it when he gets back from his holiday on Monday but he wants it 'ready to do'.
ps he told me to cut the wires on siren and leave a couple of inches to make it easier to re-install, but the siren went off when i tried to remove its cover, but stopped when i turned the screw back a turn, then had to put the code in on panel

hi mike t,welcome to the site, most people dont want or cant afford to get their alarm serviced, they are ignorant on how it works, apart from keying in pin number to turn it on or off,so,when they get a power cut and the standy battery has dead cells, and alarm goes off and they cant switch it off, they panic, the batt has life off 3 or 5 years depends where panel is fitted,so this is why you see so many people being told to replace the battery, the scantronic range tells you when the battery is faulty,as do others, still people doubt our advice,i have been in the trade 40 years now, seen it all,as have the regulars on here,we are not smart arses,we just know what we are on about, very few people have the manners to say thank you for your help,in fact most people dont give any feed back at all,,so,pardon us if we sound or look angry, manners costs nothing,i wish you a long an healthy career in ouy industry mike t

Mike T its not testorone its frustration, Acorn, GTS, Alarm and myself dont know each other, But we are the best engineers in the UK, No-One has ever questioned that. I personally replace lots of batteries, but obviously they are not the answer to all faults. Learn the basics, eg Grade 1, N/C circuits, then move onto Grade 2, Resistor's, and Grade 3 anti masking etc,
You need to understand your multi-meter and what it is telling you, eg, high or floating resistances,
By the way Mike dont ever let anyone tell you regardless of their ability that they can test a battery with a mulimeter, It is IMPOSSIBLE take note Mapli**. If they say they can they are talking Crap.
Last moan to AD* If your gonna send an engineer to site to resolve a speech dialler issue on a panel at least understand Telephone line voltages, NO ADSL filter didnt help either.
never mind its another one you guys have lost.
Rant over.

Hmm, with all this testorone and anger around (justifiable by the way) I'm not sure if I should put my head above the parapet, but I'd appreciate someone explaining how changing the battery seems to be recommended as a cure so many odd problems. As a new engineer, I like to take the opportunity for some of the good advice and tips that I've picked up from you guys - no I'm not grovelling.

nick,sd an engineer ?are u drunk or what ?he an idiot he not have a clue about alarms ,

gts, January 2012
Hi SD, can i ask are you actually employed as an engineer, The information you type is a waste of space on these threads, GTS has beaten me to it, NVM, Go away you stupid little person, Your in-Between probably the most experienced engineers in the UK on here, Dont ever question our ability or we will blow you away with technical data that will have you totally lost.
Now go away.

Nick, January 2012
you assume aworking knowlage of alarms no name,sd has none, his posts prove it.as the guys on here said,he is going to cause so much damage or worse with his ingnorance, the regulars on here have around 200 years of experience on alarm systems,(god do i feel old )we know what we talk about,we welcome anyone on this site who is qualified and knows what they are on about, never give the public advice if you dont know what the hell your on about,by this i mean,sd,

you know the old saying acorn, its better to keep your mouth shut, and let people think your thick, than to open it and prove it,and by god, does he prove it !!!

In the hope that one day he'll get the message and ***s off.

We can't be here 24/7 to catch his rubbish and put people right can we? One day he will really give some wrong advise and cause a real problem.

acorn, January 2012
he has never heard of a non volatile memory acorn,
why waste your time trying to educate it ?:-)

SD, so you are saying that if all power is removed from an alarm system, all the settings are lost?

No help given is better than the rubbish you spout.

Go back to kindergarten then come back here in, say, 25yrs when you might be of use to questioners .

acorn, January 2012
If you do not totally remove power, you will not loose settings, But it means that you will be working with live equipment, which is not recommended. You should not be able to touch anything, but extra care. If you take the cover off, alarm will sound 'tamper' a spring is under the cover, connects to a switch, 2nd pair of hands useful. hold spring down and enter code to stop alarm, before it drives you mad, OR you could use some earplugs, once open, unplug old battery plug in new close up. Done
