its been parked up for a week, i came to start it and it started straight away, but stoped after about 40 seconds, i primed it at the pump above the fuel filter and it started again, for about 40 seconds, i put a new fuel filter on and a new prime pump, but still the same, any ideas,

Alan if it's the latest tector engine it doesn't have a stop solenoid,it's common rail ,with a pressure pump and electrically fired injuectors

Have you checked the stop solenoid out take the wire off the top remove the solenoid from the pump and take out the plunger and spring refit the solenoid with out spring and plunger bleed and try again, it could be the magnetic plunger has broken down also check the wiring to the stop solenoid clean the connectors as well

if it is the lift pump thats failed then yes you have to fit a complete pump

possibly lift pump in main pressure pump has sheared it's drive ,,disconnect main fuel pipe at common rail ,spin engine over and see if get any fuel,if not possibly sheared drive ,,easy to check ,3 small torx bolts bolts hold lift pump on to main pump ...or if you disconect m-prop ,pull of plug ,that should give you max pressure and it should start ,though you will have a warning on the dash which will go away as soon as you plug the m-prop back in ...
