vectra battery and starting issues?

Two oddities with my 1997 Vauxhall Vectra Ls 16v 1799cc 5dr Estate (Petrol)

1)Come winter the battery "always" flats overnight. No lights left on etc - its just flat in the morning. Only during winter tho.

2) went to jumpstart it this morning and its very sluggish to start then coughing and spluttering badly... and the hazard flasher light is not flashing but is on solid red when this is happening? I pushed it in and the hazards don't flash then, the light just stays solid red. (that's the light on the hazard button, not the hazards/indicators themselves)

cheers for any thoughts!
