battery?

battery light remains on and stereo does not play, if i place the handbreak on and put into gear and try to go with the handbreak on the stereo comes on. when i stop and take it out of gear the stereo turns off. can you help me because i have changed my fan belt and put a new alternater on also battery dies within 20 minutes

sounds like the cells in the battery have gone try a new battery. Otherwise the alternator is not properly wired to the car. Most alternators boil the battery before they die anyway. It may be 12 volts but ampage will be rubbish. Did you replace the regulator too? Its the voltage regulator on the alternator. If you are sure the alternator is working OK it should be pushing maybe 13v to the battery then when fully charged it drops to 11v If the battery is cream crackered then it won't be able to charge properly anyway. Hence the battery dies straight away. -hope this helps-Darron
