miele washing machine model num 639?

i have a meile, model num, 639, and the water inlet warning light kept flashing, after a hot wash the water inlet light starated flashing again. so istopsd the wash and reset the machine for a quick wash and put it on to rinse and spin. the drum started to make a banging noise and a really bad smell of burning. i shut it all down and drained the drum. any ideas in what the fault is

You might have a blocked pressure chamber. The red light starts to flash if the machine thinks that water might still be in the drum. Could you open the door???? If not - then this is the most likley cause. The burning smell is most likley the heater element has come on with no water in the tub. With a blocked pressure chamber the machine thought it had water in and switched the heater on. Not a difficult repair but the heater element might now be blown (there is a temperature fuse link inside the element.

you could start by checking the inner wash drum and rotate each of the paddles to 12 oc position checking each for looseness by pushing upwards gently with your thumb, if you find a noticble difference in any of them one of the arms of the spyder assembly has shattered, if while doing this test you feel the drum is stiff to turn i would suspect something has got in between the inner and outer drum jamming it and causing the belt to get burned while the motor was still spinning. to access the miele the front panel opens outward from lhs, retaing screws are easily seen but there is a clip to press on in the bottom in the bottom lh side.when open you will be better able to check the wm
