Water is pouring out from the soleplate ?

My iron takes a long time to heat and then lots of water pours out from the bottom holes

agree with db depending on age and other symptons.if the water coming out is not hot it could mean a malfunction thermostat or heater,it will do that if water is not converted into steam before releasing and no presssure built up
