52 plate clio electric window trouble?

Hi

I've got a misbehaving drivers side electric window! When I press the the button to put the window down, it does nothing but then as I'm driving along, it will go down by itself and I'm often having to fight with it to get it back up! I can hear it clicking away in the glove box as it's continuously trying to lower it! This doesn't happen all the time (never when the engines turned off) so there's no pattern as to when or why the window will go down by itself and sometimes it doesn't do it at all!! The motor obviously works so I'm assuming there's a lose connection or something (I'm not very technical with cars!!). I've contacted Renault and just to do a diagnostics test it's nearly £100 so I'm wondering if anyone would know what causes this and whether it is only Renault that can fix it? I have spoken to another garage and they have said to replace the BSR (I think that's what they said?!) unit which they suspect it the issue, will be £270 + VAT and then it will need to be re-programmed by renault. If someone could shed some light on this, I'd be most grateful! Thanks

Hi Caz,

I've got the exact same problem as you and have done for the past 4 months!

In the end I've taken out the regulator to stop the window from working at all. Atleast this way the window won't keep coming down by itself.

I've just had a go at spraying loads of wd40 in the mechanism of the electric window and am going to check in a minute if this has worked (very much doubt it has).

Hows yours going? Also has anyone else got any tips or advice?!?!

Thank you very much for that info. When I try to press the button down, it makes no sound at all (no clicking noice in the glove box area) but when it's winding itself down, I can hear it clicking away!! I will try and do some investigation into the connections etc as you've suggested or I'll try your second option of Ebay or Halfords. Thanks again.

As you have a clicking, as if it wants to go, my 1st thought would be window sticking, they have a load sensor cct, thats why you cannot cut your head off in one, if glass is stuck, might be trying to lower it. Maybe wash it with washing up liquid, but do not rinse off fully, so a layer of liquid on glass, both sides, see if that helps. after that I would go for connections between door and frame, usually plug in connectors under the rubber boot, ease boot off, unplug connectors check, any sign of corrosion clean, you can get contact cleaner lubricants, which I found worked on them for my back door not unlocking, quick squirt plug back together done, Then, mechanism in door, make sure greased up. . If that still does not fix it, relays etc. only after that would I think about diagnostics etc. But you will be able to get a OBD diagnostic reader from Ebay or such very cheap, connect to a laptop, read the codes your self. Or halfords etc do stand alone units
