Had similar problem with my ford mondeo 2002 model.. How it was solved- had the back door removed to gain access to the locked catch..we eventually used big screwdrivers and hummers to get to the catch which eventually gave way. Once opened, we removed screws to door cover and the sponge with tar as glue.., you'll discover that there's a cable that's no longer in place due to that it hangs on plastic which is weak or asbestos hook which has broken down.. Take it out and have it replaced.. Your door should be okey..Becky25.
