immobiliser scenic 98 1.6 petrol?

will i loose the coding for my remote when i disconnect the battery to replace the starter motor. If this is the case is there also a way of repairing it without going back to renault who will without dought tell me i need a new plip. I would like to thank you in advance for any information you could send on this subject.

I guess you mean the remote control for locking/unlocking and deactivating the immobiliser. If so as far as I know you wont lose the code the memory unit that holds the codes has a battery back up its self I wouldn't leave it disconnected for weeks but a few hours no problem. however don't forget if you have an audio system that requires a code...that will lose its brain..hope this helps...
