I'll answer my own question. It is removed in the same way as on other Dysons. In my case, my Dyson is about 12 years old and has never been opened (well done Dyson) resulting in the brushroll becoming seized up. A sqirt of WD40 helped to resolve the problem. I would advise that the WD40 is given time to work. I was impatient with the result that a small piece of the of the of the 'C' socket broke off. Hopefully it won't affect the efficiency when I put it back together.
