how can i fix a vertical split 150mm x 2mm in caravan plastic front panel?

Vertical split in front panel of caravan. can this be repaired and sanded flush to blend in with structure and painted. Access to the split is only from the front, so as not to disterb the interior.

Also to assist in stopping the split spreading in length drill a hole each end slightly bigger than the split if 2mm all way through then 3mm drill bit. I do this in timber and it works.
