When i rotate the camshaft,the exhaust lobes are not in the position that they should be when the 6mm hole is lined up with in the head(have rotated the cam several times clockwise)

Is the cam pully located on the camshaft in the correct position

not sure on your model but there is one vauxhall engine which has lobes pressed onto the camshaft and if the engine locks up for whatever reason these lobes can turn on the shaft causing serious timing problems,only solution is to replace with a new camshaft which now are cast shafts eliminating this problem,don`t know what your original problem was and not sure if this problem relates to yours but worth a look,good luck
