When you say a lot of oil,how much, and how frequently do you have to top up,

are you topping up with the correct grade of oil,

if you have no visible signs of a oil leak, and no oil on the surface where you usually park up overnight then you must assume the engine is using it,.

The visible signs of this would be blue smoke from the exhaust,

usually a puff on start up and on the over run,

if the engine is tired due to engine wear, then you would certainly notice and smell the oil being burnt.

its ok for engines to use a little oil,

half a litre over 3to 4 monts depending on how you drive the car is ok.

I suggest you give the car a oil and filter service,
use a good quality oil and grade designed for your engine.

before you undertake the oil service check the coolant for any signs of oil,
You may have a problem with the oil cooler.
