I have a pair of pants jammed under the washing machine agitator. How do I remove the washing machine agitator so that I can get them out?

first remove the fabric softner cap or any type of top cover on the agitator. then you will see a bolt down the hole. you will need a socket set along with extensions to reach the bolt. remove the bolt and the agitator should slide straight up, because it sits on a splined shaft it will not move left or right.
