scantronic 9800?

Hello Can someone please advise what battery I can use in my scantronic 9800
I am thinking about the screwfix 12v Sealed Lead-Acid either 3ah or 7ah and wondered which is best
Last time the battery place advised a 3.2 and charged me £40
The time before that I had an engineer out and it cost me £85 plus I had to agree to a years contract at £40 or he would not come out to me
Also the alram box on the outside of the house has a small battery in it which has not been replace for ages - what kind of battery will that take please and where can I buy one - screwfix?or is it specialised
I want to replace it myself to save money
Thanks to anyone who can advise

no ,it wont,if it fails then your sounder wont sound if mains fails, some bell boxes are made in such a way that you cant replace the battery, but you have to change the sab,( self activating bell module)it may work out cheaper to replace the old bell box, good luck

thank you I will buy the 7amp - the battery was last replaced in 2005 so must be ready for renewal as the last one 'blew' after 8 years
The battery in the bell box has been in about 10/12 years If I just leave it in will it set off the alarm like the internal battery continually until it is replaced i.e. bf on control panel as I am worried that it will start the alarm sounding in the middle of the night and won't stop until it is replaced
Thanks again for your advice

and if you do open it,remove fuse from spur unit to kill mains power ok?

gts, March 2012
but be aware,if you open the end station up,you will require an engineer code to reset,

the 9800 take a 7 amp battery, most bell box batts vary depend of the type of bell box,if you want to test the bell box, just remove the fuse from the spur unit that feeds power to the alarm, you will get a reduced sound from bell box, this is normal, some bell boxes you cant replace the battery, you have to replsce the sab unit,

Go on the physical size if the battery, the largest that you can fit in the space, higher the amp/hours, the longer it will stay on during a power cut. AS for the bell box, variable in size and type, if you remove powere from the control, or use a test to check outside unit, If it sounds for about 10 mins, should be ok, other wise you would have to open it up to find out. batteries also available at places such as Maplins, RS spares Farnell etc.
