Why has the handbrake gone from 4 clicks to maximum?

I have a 51 plate renault scenic and when I applied the handbrake it came all the way up, and would it be possible for me to readjust it. Thanks

Think it is more likely the handbrake cable has snapped. Difficulty and cost of repair depends on which part of the cable has snapped.
