whirlpool adp 4601 starts as normal after a shot time stops and a 4 flashing fault indicator appers, what is this fault and can it be fixed by me,or do I get the repair man in,or worse look for a new dishwasher?

The four flashes indicates a drainage fault,its basically telling you it cannot drain the water,.Open the door and take out the baskets,now there's always some water in the sump,but if the water level is above the filter then either the filter is blocked,or there's a blockage in the pump,or waste outlet.

You can remove the filter and carefully clean it,I say carefully because you don't want to damage the membrane,.Bail out as much water as you can and fill the sump up with boiling water,close the door and start the machine,the machine should start pumping the water out immediately.

If it doesn't you will have to remove the pump and check for a blockage.

If you need help removing the pump,post back,remember to unplug the machine before you remove the pump.
