When we use the bottom drawer, the unit works fine, goes through the cycles, but at the end, doesn't shut off.

What do you mean it won't shut off? Is wash motor still running? Is there still water in the drawer? Is it possible that you can just hear the fan running? The fan will run for some time after the cycle has finished to remove steam & help drying. That is normal.
