Siemens xml 1200, statues light keeps jumping between on & active?

Washing machine program set, I press the start button the status light moves from on to active. Wash begins but light immediately jumps back from active to on. This happens every time I press the start button?

check to see that the door is staying locked if not you prob have a faulty door interlock switch, otherwise it could be any number of faults
