My leyland daf 45 2001 ?

My Leyland Daf 45 2001 starts up no problem runs for about 15 mins then stops. Called out the local garage that does some wagons he thought it might be air in the fuel so bled the valves then changed a filter ( sorry don't know anything about wagons) I started it up today and it ran for about 15 mins then stopped same as before.

Dear Norb,
Tried to start wagon yesterday it wouldn't start but the garage guy came today bled it and it started. I kept it running for an hour and took it for a run, started it again tonight and ran it for another hour. Ran perfectly and I am going to run it again tomorrow. Fingers crossed. Thanks for your advice.

Thanks for all the info it's a bit beyond me (even though I'm not blonde!) Will show this answer to the mechanic when he reappears. I told him I had posted my problem on the internet, not sure if he is waiting for the answer!

Since you have my brain working overtime ...lol ..Is the lift pump ok ???Also another idea you can try is get a can of fuel and connect that to the lift pump .That will take the fuel pipes out the equation ..ie if it then runs ok ,fault is from fuel lift pump back to tank ,if it cuts out then it is fuel lift pump forward ...As it only takes a pin hole before the lift pump to draw in air ...That should keep your lad busy lol

The switch on the pump you refer to is the stop solenoid ..What you can do is remove switch ,careful as a small plunger and spring will fall out ..Put them somewhere safe ,refit the switch minus plunger and spring ,start and run engine ,if all ok say after 30 mins ,get a new stop solenoid ..With internals removed you will have to stall it to stop the engine ....Failing that the fuel injection pump may be at fault as in it can't maintain pressure..As it sounds as though you have a rotary pump ..If you're mechanic isn't comfortable removing the pump as it is timed to the engine ,then take vehicle to local fuel injection /bosch specialist and they can check the pump out

Will add i have never known the stop solenoid kick in itself after the engine is running then let the engine restart ,so make sure wiring is ok

Dear Norb,
They have checked the fuel sedimentar and it is clean, changed the filter and bled the fuel pipes in case of air. I think next on the list is the switch in the fuel pump. What do you think.

norb, April 2012
No definitely not an LF it's a Daf 45 130 eur 11Ti 2001 last one before the LF

Liz, April 2012
LF came out then ..hence why i asked change over period......have you cleaned out the fuel sedimenter on the side of the fuel tank ?? it has a glass bowl you can usually see the water and crap in it ..i'd clean it out

norb, April 2012
