how can i fix peugeot 206s 1.1 speedo?

my battery died,since then my speedo is 20mph slower than actuall speed,been told whole new speedo console needed(£400) but only speedo faulty,is this poss due to speedo sensor or stepper moter blowing when battery died ?if so is it an easy fix?

Battery dying should not affect anything. WHAT makes you think 20 mph lower than actual. HOW are you getting actual, you do not say????????
