seat release broken, can't it be fixed DIY?

I have a renalt megane 04 3door. Problems galore but the latest is the passenger seat release breaking so kids can't get into the back without me getting in and out all the time. The plastic is intact but the metal cable is snapped. Can this be replaced DIY?
