do i have a bad earth on my xr3i convertable (1987) side lights at the front both work then when I turn on the head lights the drivers light goes dim and the passenger side one works perfectly and the baulbs have been swapped around to prove not blown, please help me !

It sound's like a bad ground, and when it's hard to trace I hook my own ground wire to it.
