ive just purchased a merc vito2001 model and drove to the garage then a little bang n alot off steam and water looked in water pipe split i this something to worry about ..

Pipes do split. Replace. Should not be a problem, Could of been worn, rubbing against something else. Not very high pressure, but enough. Check others while you are at it.
