How do I replace Laguna ECU and does it have to be a new unit?

The ECU on my 1995 Launa RXE automatic has pcked up. Otherwise the car is in very good nick but the garage are talking about a lot of money to replace it. Can I fit it myself and would a second hand unit from a scrap car do it?
