when i use my windscreen wipers in the rain they work normally and fine but when i switch them off they suddenley stop in middle of windscreen instead of the bottom so i have to keep playing with switch untill they settle at the bottom. would this be a problem with the relay or motor ?

Within the wiper motor unit, there is a set of contacts, suppossedly to keep the unit powered until the blade reaches home position. The contacts must be dirty, and not making. If you open up the motor unit, around where the blade shaft is, is the contact section, clean the contacts, reassemble.
