hi, can anyone help me with this problem.
I have a mk2 ford mondeo 2000reg. My offside main beam has stopped working, i've checked all the fuses and they are ok, i've tested the main plug that supplies power to the headlight unit, all the relevant power is there for side, dipped and headlight alignment motor, but unfortunately no power for main beam. However the main beam on the nearside is working O.K..The only conclusion that I can come to is that there is a break in the wiring somewhere, but for the life of me I can't see why that should be.Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, cos it's giving me a right auld headache trying to sort it out.

cheers Nigel i'll give that a try, i noticed the earth points in the engine bay, while i'm checking the wiring out I think i'll give them a clean up just to elimnate them from the problem, peace of mind if nothing else..

The main beam relay feeds onto a link between fuses 17 & 18 7.5 amp (L & R) then out from the fusebox direct to the light units connectors on pin 1 The main beam uses a separate earth pin 6 which is commoned up inside the light unit to also provide an earth for the leveling motor, the dipped and sidelight earth is on pin 7 they then join up in a splice and go to a ground point Front R/H side of engine bay.

You could do a continuity check from the light unit connector back to the fuse, if this is OK this would prove the wiring and the fault is in the fusebox or check if there is 12volts at one side of the fuse this would prove the fusebox and that the fault is in the wiring either way you would know where to start looking for the problem.
