Scantronic 9600 showing tamper unit tamper?

Hi

Alarm been working for years (we didn't install it) now when we try and set it, after putting in the code is says "System Reset Requried " and Tamper. Then 75% of the time if we put in the reset code is then says "Tamper unit Tamper" and freezes for hours until we can try it again. 25% of the time the reset works and we can continue to set the alarm.

Really clear suggestions thanks a lot. I will start with he
sounder box.

Rodge, May 2012
no more to be the said, the guys have got it spot on,:-)

Some OLD sounders had weird anti-tamper arrangements. If the problem has just started in this hot weather it is possible the sounder case is flexing and causing exactly the problem you are describing.

From the Manual.

Unit Tamper
The circuit connected to the unit tamper terminals has become open circuit.
Check the external sounder wiring. If an SAB is not fitted check that TR and 0V are linked.

Sounds like you have either a wiring, or outside sounder tamper issue,

check the wiring for your outside sounder, and also the tamper switches, front and back on the sounder itself.

Ensure that there's no corrosion to these tamper switches. There's defo a intermittent tamper fault somewhere.
You could link out the tampers, but that should only be carried out by anyone who is aware of the dangers, and understands how the system operates electronically.

Sorry Rodge, but that's all I can suggest, other than getting someone in who can trace and correct the tamper fault.

Maybe the guys can offer more advice, and also the control panels backup battery may need to be replaced. All the best with it,and good luck, whatever you decide.
