1996 Megane Coupe Start Up Lights ? ?

For the first few seconds after I start my car where the mileage shows on the dash it displays the word oil, I have checked the oil and the level seems high enough and is still reasonably clean can anyone help as to why this is displayed ? Many thanks Stacey :)

on the peugeots they check the oil in the sump with a electric sencer when you switch them on .this is the same is there no marks as to level of oil?
