Can anyone please tell me the value of R63 and its wattage rating used in the above panel. It appears to be the feed resistor for recharging the battery. It has been under great stress and has scorched the pcb panel. The reason i think is because the battery has failed and become vertually a S/C causing the charge current to be high and cooking the resistor. On the engineering booklet it just says SL8.

Not made IIRC now , the panel.
Easier to spend 30 quid and have a working cheap similar panel than mess about at component level, as it will go bang again. Trust me have tried.
One return call isnt worth the price of a resistor and I have hundreds of the buggers in my tool kit for when it is worth it.

Thanks for your reply. I did buy a new battery , connected it up and it works! I want to change the resistor because it may have changed value. I bought, and installed it in 2003, but I am not sure of the manufacturer, who is SL? I do have an electrical background, for many years I was a TV engineer, so I am not a novice on components but the physical size of resistors has changed over the years. this may be a safety resistor so I need to get the wattage correct.

i take it the colour bands are burnt,but i will tell you this mate,you are wasting your time,there will be more damage to the pc,better buy a decent panel,and replace the battery ,the wattage should be apparent by the size of the resistor,
